Night vision devices have elaborate electronic systems that enable them to see in total darkness. The main categories are night vision goggles, binoculars, monoculars and night vision scopes. Each device has it's advantages and it's disadvantages so the key is to choose the best type of night vision for your tasks. Making the wrong choice can really limit the usefulness and enjoyment of the product. The other area where many people make a mistake is buying the wrong type of technology also known as generation. There are several levels of generations ranging from gen 1 up to gen 4 and getting the wrong one can leave you quite disappointed as there are substantial differences between these technologies. The US military currently uses generation 3 night vision for all it's personnel. Remember these devices only amplify available light and the more star and moonlight there is the better you will be able to see.
